Different Types Of Heating

There are many different heaters to choose from, however all heaters falls into four different categories. Each category of heating has its own advantages and disadvantages, it is always important to ensure to choose the correct type of heating for your home or business.

Firstly it is important to understand why the choice of heater can have such an impact. In the end it comes down to not power, but where the heater is and how it is used. For example if you have a large living room or office you do not want a heater that only heats directly in front of it. On the other hand to keep a section of room warm and be economic you do not want a heater which will fill the room with heat.

The first type of heater, the most common, is the convector heater. In a convection heater, the heating element heats the air next to it by conduction. Hot air is less dense than cool air, so it rises due to buoyancy, allowing more cool air to flow in to take its place. This sets up a constant current of hot air that leaves the appliance through vent holes and heats up the surrounding space.

The second type is the radiant heater. Radiant heaters contain a heating element that reaches a high temperature. The element is usually packaged inside a glass envelope resembling a light bulb and with a reflector to direct the energy output away from the body of the heater.

The third type is the storage heaters. A storage heating system takes advantage of cheaper electricity prices, sold during low demand periods such as overnight.

The final type of heating is the A fan heater is a variety of convection heater that includes an electric fan to speed up the airflow. This reduces the thermal resistance between the heating element and the surroundings, allowing heat to be transferred more quickly.

It is possible to have heaters which combine different types of heater together to increase the power for use of a heater. An example would be a storage heater with a boot option; the boost option is normally an extra fan which temperately turns on to boost the heat in the room.

The advantage of having multiple types of heating built into one is the increased versatility. Whereas most heating types have their limitations, by combining heating methods and types you remove restrictions that would normally cost a heater.

You must take into account where the heater will be placed. Heaters that are not in direct view need to spread the warmth in the room and not heat directly. If you choose a high powered heater and misuse how it was indented you can put yourself at risk.

Tansun Rio IP Quartz Heater

The Tansun Rio Quartz Heater is the number one solution for indoor or outdoor quartz heater for commercial or residential use. The main advantage of the Tansun Rio is that the quartz heater has all the advantages of an electrical heater plus low running costs compared to gas alternatives. The Tansun Rio has superior manufacturing, designed to maximise the heat produced and enhance the long life of the bulbs, with a strong long lasting aluminium extrusion. The Tansun Rio is the most versatile solution, able to fit in the needs of end users in a range of environments.

As well as exceptional design the Tansun Rio uses the IPX4 rated quartz heater bulbs. This extends the lamp life of the Tansun Rio Quartz Heater to 5,000 – 7,000 hours. The front guard helps to extend the life of the lamp, glass fronted quartz heaters suffer from a shorter life span due to the front face. The Tansun Rio also gives off a soft ambient light helping to laminate an area as well as keep it warm.

The Tansun Rio is designed to heat up to 12 square meters (approximately 3m x 4m or a patio table and 5 chairs.) This makes the Tansun Rio perfect for domestic use, in the garden, summerhouses or gazebos. Commercial applications can also make full use of the Tansun Rio, with the ability to be mounted outside on walls, awnings or under umbrellas, the Tansun Rio is ideal for a massive range of applications.

The Tansun Rio also comes in a range of colours. With a selection between white, silver and black you can select the perfect colour so the Tansun Rio fits around you. The Tansun Rio range comes in a vast number of wattages, you can select from 1kW, 1.5kW or 2kW depending on your requirements. The Tansun Rio is also one of the more inexpensive options, with the price difference between the range of wattages been minimal.

For our tests we decided the best test to push the Tansun Rio would be to have a barbeque in winter. We had two Tansun Rio’s connected to the umbrella pointing in different directions (one half of the table each with one side having the barbeque.) We used two Tansun Rio 2kW black quartz heaters. The warmth could be felt immediately. As soon as the heaters where turned on the temperature rose and we all felt the warmth, even as far as the barbeque the warmth could still be felt. Easy to install and run, the Tansun Rio was a joy to use. The light given off from quartz heaters can normally be an eye sore however with the Tansun Rio there were no issues of the sort.

The Tansun Rio was easy to use, simple to install and very competitively priced. Even the bill for running the two 2kW quartz heaters was considerably cheaper than a gas alternative.

Dimplex RPX Radiant Panel Heater

The Dimplex RPX Radiant Panel Heater is the leading radiant heater on the market today. The Dimplex RPX is one of the few slimline radiant heaters available. The main selling point of the Dimplex RPX Radiant Panel Heater has to be the radiant heat and how effective it is.

One of the first questions many people have is what is the difference between a radiant heater and other types? Heaters all work in different ways. Some heaters use the raising hot air to circulate the heat. Other heaters use a fan to forcefully rotate the air in the room to fill a large area. The most important information you should notice on any heater is what type it is. Different types of heaters are designed for different uses, it is important you are aware of what you will be using the heater for before deciding on what to buy.

A radiant heater heats items in the same way as the sun. The Dimplex RPX projects the heat outwards. The heat travels in a straight projection from the heater. This means items directly in front of the heater feel and receive the warmth, anything behind the heater will not. This may seem a disadvantage at first however all heaters have a purpose. If you only need to heat a set spot or direction why have a fan heater that fills the room or a convector heater designed for large areas? A prime example of a radiant heater in use would be a living room where one source of heat pointing at the setae or couch is all that is required.

By having the heat focused in one set area or point you stop wasted energy and power which would be used to heat up the rest of the area, when it was not required. The Dimplex RPX is ideal for such a situation. With a wide range of wattages and its solid design the Dimplex RPX Radiant Panel Heater is perfect for around the home.

We tested the Dimplex RPX and found it was perfect for instant heat. With the higher wattages been felt almost immediately even from across the room. The RPX also has a range of hidden features. You can have user selected comfort levels, background heat or frost protection. The Dimplex RPX also comes with an electric thermostat which is accurate to 0.1 of a degree centigrade.

The Dimplex RPX is also splash proof for use in bathrooms and wet areas. The Dimplex RPX can also accept the Dimplex range of plug-in controllers and programmers. This means you can also wire this into your other Dimplex heaters around the house, individually or as a group.

The Dimplex RPX Radiant Panel Heater is the ideally solution for around the house for on the spot heating, a small room that requires direct heat or even in commercial applications. The Dimplex RPX has a wide range of practical uses, with a lower price tag than other types of heaters the RPX is a wise choice for radiant heating.
