Heatrae Sadia has a long illustrious history in the field of water heating. This progression has lead to it becoming the UK’s leading supplier of electrical water heating devices. It all started back in the 1920’s in Norwich, where the company Electric Fires was born, and its remit to produce electrical heating appliances out of its showroom on King’s street. A few years later in 1926 with the business booming they moved to larger premises on St George’s Street. The business continued to go from strength to strength and in 1934 a name change was brought about with the first mention of Heatrae arising, the company was also floated on the stock market.
Fast forward now to the 1960’s, a gentleman and leading manufacturer of electric and steam liquid heating equipment, Duncan Low came on board and a year later in 1961 an offshoot of Heatrae, Heatrod was born, specifically to produce heating elements. In 1962, Heatrae acquired Electroway Heaters and became a subsidiary of Central Mining Investment Co. (CMIC). Within three years CMIC merged with British South African Co. to become Charter Consolidated and five years later in 1970 Heatrae moved to current site at Norwich Airport Industrial Estate. Four years later Sadia Water Heaters was acquired, but it wasn’t for another three years before the name of the company was changed to Heatrae Sadia and as such Sadia production moved to Norwich.
In 1985, the Valor Group bought Heatrae Sadia, along with Gainsborough Electrical, in turn the Valor manufacturers and Gainsborough production moved to Norwich. Heatrae Sadia was growing and growing, only a few years had passed and in 1988 Elsy and Gibbons, manufacturers of water heating tanks was acquired, further growing the business. Then a year later Pullin who manufactured immersion heaters was also acquired.
Jumping ahead now a few years Heatrae Sadia managed to acquire the Megaflo system and patent thus broadening their already burgeoning offering. In the coming years the company changed hands a few more times but always maintained the name Heatrae Sadia so as to cement its excellent reputation in the market. Between the years of 1997 and 1998 Newmond came in and bought out the building products division of William Holdings, who had previously bought out Valor, Newmond then acquired the RSA Water Heating from IMI plc and later in 2001 merged with Baxi an international company that has great experience in this particular market place. Finally in 2006, over 30 years after its acquisition Heatrod was sold and now Heatrae Sadia exists.
So as you can see Heatrae Sadia has had a rich history and pedigree in this field, partnering and acquiring top line companies throughout the years to serve the consumer, be it public or private and provide class leading technology to the home and business across the board.
